X-Mas Teahupoo

Decembre 14 th : X-Mas Teahupoo Teaser
While the final the day of the Pipeline Masters was being decided in 6’ conditions on the North Shore of Oahu, down in the south pacific Teahupoo was disshing out some solid 12’ + sets to the bemused locals.
Teiva Joyeux had checked the conditiond at dawn and the massive swell seemed a bit messy.
On the drive down we would be calling each other, sharing reports on the huge sets and explosion we would see out on the different reefs. This was X-mas, a week early !

By the time we got out, it was only 7 am but the sun was half way in the sky.
Poto and Thierry Domenech where already out in the channel checking the waves from the buoy.
It was a miracle. Massive Tow in size Teahupoo with glassy summer conditions and only the locals to take it on. The swell was critically west at first and then turned during the day.
Poto kicked off the session ripping up the sheet glass conditions.
Raimana quickly became the stand out of the day. With master driver Arsene Harehoe selecting the gems and dropping him off in style. He caught the 3 biggest, bluest waves of the day and rode them deep in the pit. The color of the water and the light inside the tube was surreal. The high decembre sun was giving us visions rareley seen. Raimana was standing tall giving us the shaka’s in cartoon like waves. Later on Arsene was paid back for his work when he caught arguably his best teahupoo ride ever.
Michel Bourrez freshly back from the North Shore went out and started to tackled the line up paddling in. He copped a few heavy wipe outs but managed to score some incredible rides
with ballsy commitment. The kid has raw talent and it was real a treat to finaly see him out at massive Teahupoo. The WQS schedule rarely gives them the opportunity to surf the best days of the year.
Alain Riou , Teiva Joyeux , and Kevin Johnson sat out during the day to get their share of incredible rides.
When we all made it home and checked our mails we found out the that Andy Irons had just won the Pipe Masters in an epic final day .
Who would have though that 15000 miles south at the same time Teahupoo would be forking out 12’ tubes in the middle of decembre.
A pure blessing to kick off the holiday season. A all time free surf session between friends .
